Success is alluring and fascinating. Seeing people being rewarded makes others want the same things too. But we don’t see the tears and sweat they put into it. We only see the shiny exterior. #1. Hard Work will not always pay off

People feel as if they are entitled to success just because they work hard. Don’t get me wrong, hard work is a very essential ingredient of success. But hard work alone will not lead you to your destination. There are several people who spend their life working hard and yet never achieve anything major. Don’t fall into that trap! Work hard but be smart at the same time. Heard of the Pareto principle?

It’s called the 80/20 rule wherein 80% of the results come from 20% of inputs. So, focus more on those 20% efforts that will get you the maximum results.

#2. Choose convention, stay mediocre

Almost everyone follows the conventional path and that’s why everyone ends up being just about mediocre. They stay stuck in a job they hate so that they can pay their bills or afford a certain lifestyle. Ask yourself- is this you? Is this what you want out of life? If you hear yourself saying no, you know change is just around the corner but you must make that decision. Get off the conventional path, do something that ignites your spirit. You will not find success if you do not enjoy your work.

#3. You might get caught up in failure

Success isn’t a linear path and it’s very unlikely that you will make it in just one effort. But what makes the difference is whether you give up or try again. If you get caught up in failure and spend your energy in thinking why did it happen to you, there wouldn’t be any time for a rebound strategy. You will just be going around in circles. Focusing on the hardships will take your eyes off the end result.

#4. You will lose some friends

If you want to be successful, you will have to work harder than most people around you, whether they are your co-workers or classmates. But in the process of working hard, you are bound to lose some friends and there is nothing you can do about it. The reasons can be many maybe their goals aren’t the same as yours, you might lose touch or maybe jealousy creeps up. Whatever the reason, some will go while some will say. Hang on the ones who stay, they are in it for the long haul.

#5. You will have to make sacrifices

Being successful feels great. The freedom of doing what you want and when you want seems very appealing. But it won’t come easy. You will have to make tough decisions along the way and make various sacrifices to reach that level. Be prepared for that.

#6. There will always be somebody better than you

There is always going to be constant competition. If you want to be the best, you must stay proactive. Learn from your peers and your competitors if you want to stay on top.
