A superhero wouldn’t be a superhero without a super-villains. And sometimes, these super villains are so interesting that it is hard not to become obsessed with them. Here are the 10 most popular comic book villains that have kept us hooked.
#1. The Joker
The Joker first appeared in Batman comics (April, 1940) published by DC. He is considered to be one of the most insane and complicated villains of the comic world who turns out to be Batman’s nemesis. We never get to hear of his past and most often, he keeps changing his back story. Joker is chaotic, anarchist and psychotic and does not have any super powers except his psychopathic behavior.
#2. Lex Luthor
Lex Luthor is Superman’s biggest enemy sans any superpowers. He is probably the most charming and charismatic super-villains of all time who even held the office of the President of the USA. He is intelligent and sees himself above ordinary men and has managed to make Superman an enemy of humanity. He believes that only he has the right to defeat the an of Steel.
#3. Doctor Doom
Doctor Doom has been one of the major villains of the Marvel universe who initially appeared in The Fantastic Four. He later turned his attention towards Avengers too. He is obsessed with proving his genius and can give a tough competition to Tony Stark and Reed Richards. In one accident, he blew his face which scarred him for life.
Galactus has an insatiable hunger that can only be satisfied by consuming the energy of planets. There is just one problem- people live on these planets! He existed even before universe did and was known as a Galen who flew into the maelstrom to either die gloriously or survive the Armageddon.
It’s hard not to root for sometimes evil Magneto who is simply trying to save his mutant people from humans but does some pretty evil things in the process such as knocking out the earth’s electricity, raising a volcano beneath the city and twisting Wolverine’s adamantium skeleton. His opposing view often brings him to conflict with his old friend Charles Xavier who believes humans and mutants can live in peace.
Darkseid has an ambitious goal which is to rule the universe and for that he needs to find the “Anti-Life Equation”. He is crazily strong, has amazing speed and possesses a powerful Omega beam with many undisclosed powers.
Thor’s adopted brother- ‘The God of Mischief’ is a master of manipulation and trickery. He has the ability to cast illusions, shapeshift, teleport and transmute matter from one form to another. He wants to rule the earth and Asgard which he believes is his right (him being a prince) and has conspired with other villains such as Doctor Doom and Norman Osborn. Though, he isn’t much trusted in the villains world too.
Powerful, maniac and crazy is what would describe Spiderman’s nemesis Venom. Well, he isn’t exactly a person but rather a costume that attaches itself to a host and gives him monster like strength, agility, speed and of course web-slinging power just like Spiderman’s. He seems obsessed with taking down Spidey but has never succeeded.

Responsible for the death of Gwen Stacy, the Green Goblin has been one of the major foes of Spider-Man. He has great speed and agility accompanies with a number of deadly weapons. Many people have taken up the mantle of Green Goblin including Parker’s friend and Harry and his father.
#10. Ra’s Al Ghul
He is an iconic Batman villain who wants to cleanse the earth and restore it to Eden like days. That seems pretty noble except the humanity needs to die in the process. He has lived long and even beat death in his Lazarus Pit. He is skilled in martial arts, swordsmanship and has great intelligence.
