12 Foods That are Killing You Slowly

When it comes to fast food, Americans are the king of deep fried goodness. It’s no wonder that a large population of our citizens are either overweight or obese. We woof down more sugar, grease, and and saturated fats than almost any other country on the planet.  Is the issue really our fault through, or are we just victims of the times. It is no secret that the worst foods to ingest, also happen to be the cheapest. We can swing by McDonald’s after a long day in the office, and get a whole meal for under four bucks. Not only do we save money, we also save ourselves time by not having to cook and then clean up the residual mess. We scramble through the day, trying to get everything done at work, then we rush home, pick up little Tommy for soccer practice, and later take the other kid to a band rehearsal. With all this pressure to preform, how in God’s name do we find the time to eat healthy?

It isn’t simply the time constraints that cause the majority of people to give in to quick alternatives of traditional cooking. Our bodies have a million years worth of programming that tell us to eat this stuff. Your ancestors didn’t have the opportunity to visit the buffet line whenever they felt the urge. These people faced famine on a regular basis, so their bodies attempted to store as much body fat as possible, while there was plenty. This helped them to survive the long bouts of starvation they may face in the future. Today we don’t generally have to worry about times of starvation, but our bodies have yet to receive that message. We are hard wired as animals to enjoy the taste of foods that are high in fat and sugars. Because of this fact, we find ourselves loosing just as many people to Little Debby as we do to smoking. Lets take a look at 12 foods that people love to eat, but are so, so bad.

#1.)    Pizza

Why, Jesus, why!? This is the staple of every college kid on the planet. It’s no wonder the freshman 15 is such a common occurrence for incoming students. Pizza is loaded with bad fats, starch, and other sugars that should be avoided at all costs.

#2.)    Buttered Popcorn

2.) Buttered Popcorn

Next time you decide to watch a movie, you may want to avoid the popcorn. The liquid gold that you douse your movie snacks in may look fantastic, but you are actually loading up on trans fats.

#3.)    Whole fat milk

 Whole fat milk

Wow, it seems like some of worst foods we can eat are done so at breakfast. Milk is the staple of many foods, but when you decide to drink it, try to avoid the whole fat variety. It contains a load of saturated fats, which can lead to higher cholesterol. If you want milk, stick with the skimmed variety.

#4.)    Store bought cakes

While Twinkies may be the only survivor of nuclear fallout, it doesn’t mean that they are a preventative measure for this scenario. They are loaded with sugar, fat, and preservatives that have been directly linked to heart disease and even cancer.

#5.)    Ice Cream

Ice Cream

God, why did you have to make us want these wonders of the modern world? Ice cream is packed with not only a plethora of simple sugars, but also all of the common dairy fats. Foods that are high in fat and sugar can help you put on the pounds faster than fatty foods alone.

#6.)    Bacon

Bacon

I know it might be blaspheme to put down bacon, but come on, we all know this stuff is terrible. It’s basically the same as eating crunchy fat sticks dipped in deep fried cholesterol. For the sake of bacon lovers everywhere, I’ll stop the trash talk now. Just understand what is going into your body every time you consume this morning delicacy.

#7.)    Soda

Soda

Oh, Americans favorite drink. This beverage contains empty calories in the form of pure sugar. Not only does soda put you at risk of diabetes, but it is also extremely acidic, which can cause an entire host of other problems for regular drinkers.

#8.)    Margarine

 Margarine

Don’t be fooled into thinking this alternative to butter is better. It might not contain the cholesterol that butter offers, but it’s packed to the brim with synthetic trans fats. Stick to butter if you have to have it at all.

#9.)    Potato Chips

Potato Chips

The crunchy pleasure of this nasty snack contains almost no nutritional value for the body outside of empty calories. They are packed with starch, fats, and also have ingredients that are linked to several types of cancer later in life.

#10.)    Donuts

 Donuts

Now, let’s leave the cop jokes out of this one. You know you’ve eaten these sugary rings of goodness a few times yourself. These morning treats contain an outrageous amount of sugar, and saturated fats. One doughnut alone can contain almost 3-400 calories.

#11.)    Processed Meats

Processed Meats

It’s the middle of summer, and the grill is alight. People are sitting around the backyard waiting for their favorite summer entries to be ready. The processed hot dogs, and bratwursts that everybody loves so much,  are not only high in saturated fats, but also contain a host of other ingredients that have been linked to cancer.

#12.)     Starbucks

 Starbucks

The coffee at our favorite morning stop has been making people fat for decades. Some of the menu items offer a quick pick-me-up, but few people know that these morning treats can offer up to a 1,000 calories of sugar alone. Leave this one alone, and take your morning coffee black.
