#1   The Amityville Horror House – Amityville, New York

One of the scariest houses in the United States is that of The Amityville House which the basis of a book from 1977 was. This house located in Amityville, New York is one of the most iconic horror houses ever. Detailed inside the epic book which became a movie, this house has been home to shootings, hauntings, and plagued by issues for decades of people that have moved into it. It was recently on sale again, and the people inside reportedly saw no issue, but there are still many people that believe the original George and Kathy Lutz tale of paranormal insanity that went on inside.

A Victorian mansion that seemed to never end was the end of the woman who wouldn’t not stop working on the building. Today, visitors can go in and look at the maze of a house, but beware, there are issues within. Workers, and visitors have cited banging, sounds, and loud noises throughout the home that appear to be from another world. More of a tourist destination than anything else, you’ll find that this is one house you don’t want to sleep at.

In 1894 a house was built from rocks found on the battlefield of Little Bighorn. This is the famous battle in which Custer had his last stand. Visitors to the house have heard of soldiers and Indians screaming and moving throughout the home. This haunted house may be one of history, but the stones may scream out in yearning of the tragic battle that took an incredible twist of fate for Custer. The house is a sight to see, and one that is completely haunted, according to legend.

#4  Lizzie Borden’s House – Springfield, Massachusetts

Lizzie Borden was accused of killing her parents with a brutal display of violence. In the home in Springfield, people have documented hearing rattling, loud noises, and much more. There are also tales of a headless ghost that comes around and causes a great deal of burden to any visitor. While this may be more lore than anything else, true believer still claim that Lizzie Borden’s awful act has caused the spirits to go restless in this home.

#5   Boone Hall Plantation – Charleston, North Carolina

South Carolina’s deep history is encapsulated with this plantation. It used 225 slaves in order to keep things nice, and many died while trying to keep the plantation looking pristine. There are slave quarters, bodies buried on the property, and stories of ghosts and ghouls that scare anyone who dares go into the home or property. Documentation has shown that major mistreatment of slaves marked this as a terrible place. Beyond lore, people state that slave children can be seen and heard haunting the common areas.
