Modern life is high stress, fast paced – sometimes we don’t have time to make a healthy meal, and sometimes the only way to wind down is with a nice drink, or a smoke. But what is this modern lifestyle doing to our bodies? Let’s take a look at some horrible health habits.
#1.) Eating junk food
Eating junk food is bad for you. Duh. This is why it’s called JUNK food, and not “This is so healthy, we should eat lots of it food”. Basically all the added processed sugars and saturated fats can increase the risks of heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and more. So eat some fruit instead.
#2) Unsafe Sex
Unsafe sex is exactly that: unsafe. Dangerous. Not good. Do not do it unless you are in a committed, exclusive relationship in which both of you are aware of the risks. So use condoms (both male and female) and look into other forms of contraceptives to prevent both unwanted pregnancy and disease.
#3.) Poor hygiene
They say that cleanliness is next to godliness. Well, maybe only in an abridged dictionary, but they have a point: it is so important to stay clean. How would you like to be standing in front of a dude on the train who didn’t brush his teeth? Or to get sick because you didn’t wash your hands after going potty? Just brush your teeth twice a day, bathe, wash your hair, wear clean clothes – it’s not too much to ask for.
#4.) Smoking
Smoking cigarettes is terribly, terribly bad for you. It kills your lungs, your mouth, your heart, your skin, your teeth, and lots of other things. Basically, stop smoking. Invest in some nicotine gum, or try going cold turkey.
#5.) Sleep Deprivation
Sleep is absolutely essential to a healthy life. We need to get somewhere between 7 and 9 hours of sleep; deep sleep. Also remember that our sleep cycle is 1.5 hours long, so sleep in multiples of that to keep yourself energised when you wake up.
#6.) Alcohol
Alcohol and good health don’t generally go well together. Neither do alcohol and dignity. One glass of red wine a night is about the maximum, really. Try some fruit juice, or water, instead.
