Things You Won’t Believe Exist In Nature

Sometimes Mother Nature produces things that are amazing to look at, but you wouldn’t think them possible!

#1.      Flammable Ice Bubbles

Under the surface of Abrahams Lake in Alberta, Canada, lie what look like frozen jewels but they are, in fact bubbles of the flammable gas methane. The bubbles form when organic matter dies and falls to the floor of the lake, and is eaten up by bacteria. The bacteria then produce methane, which forms bubbles when it comes into the frozen lake’s surface.

#2.      Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds

In the UK, starlings sometimes form flocks of up to 50 000 birds in the late evenings during winter. These huge flocks are known as murmurations and put Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 film “The Birds” to shame.

#3.      Death Valley’s Sailing Stones

Nevada’s Death Valley is home to possibly the strangest thing to exist in nature: stones that move by themselves. Called sailing stones, these rocks move without any human interference and create intriguing geometric patterns in the dust! So far, no one is exactly sure what causes them, with leading theories tying the stones’ movement to ice floes under the rocks, and even the wind!

#4.      Clouds that look like, well, breasts

Don’t get too excited now; they don’t look exactly like breasts. But that’s what they get their name from: Mammatus Clouds, from the mammary gland. It’s a rare meteorological phenomenon where pouches form under the bases of clouds, leading to this unique effect.

#5.      Waves that glow

A result of plankton that release their chemical energy as light, bioluminescent waves can be quite a beautiful sight, making it look as though the fish are perhaps, having some form of party to which we humans have not been invited. It reflects, almost, just how little we actually know about the sea, which makes up the majority of our planet. So how much do we really know about our own planet?

#6.      The place where the heavens and earth meet

This fanciful name has been given to Salar de Uyuni, a salt flat in Bolivia, South America. So called because, in some places, the salt flat reflects the sky almost perfectly, creating a beautiful mirrored image that inspires contemplation and peace. But without a doubt, the most amazing thing in nature is literally anything to do with space.
