They believe in offering their guests more than just food, accomodation and comfort. From a WW-II prison setting to a suite completely carved out of chocolate, these hotels have set new standards in the hospitality industry. Ice Hotel is situated in Jukkasjarvi, a village in northern Sweden. It is rebuilt each year from ice blocks taken from the Torne River. The rooms, chandeliers, decorations and sculptures and even beds and chairs are all made from ice!

Dog Bark Park Inn is located in Idaho. It is built in the shape of a beagle. It’s a two bedroom Bed & Breakfast facility. It also features other dog themed contents. There is a gift shop, visitor centre and the gallery of chainsaw artists which sells dog carvings as well.

Igloo village in Finland offers you the opportunity to sleep under nature’s amazing fireworks display, the Northren Lights which are clearly visible through the thermal glass roofs of the igloos. This hotel boasts 10 motoring themed suites which pay homage to vintage, sports, classic and modern automobiles that are any car-lover’s dream.

Crane Hotel in Netherlands is a B & B crafted from a genuine working dockside crane. The machine room has been converted into a luxury suite for two. The external ladder has been replaced by an elevator, which magically delivers breakfast in the morning.

The Karostas Ceitums in Lativa is a military prison from the WWII that is now a hotel which offers guests the opportunity to live the life of a prisoner for the night. Before checking in, you’re required to sign a contract which states that you are willingly signing up to be insulted by the “jailor” (a staff member) and fully understand the terms and conditions that include sleeping on grungy beds and eating prison food. Because luxury hotels are too mainstream.

Got a sweet tooth? The Godiva chocolate suite in New York’s Bryant Park Hotel has more chocolate than you can handle. The chairs, table, chandelier, even the logs in the fireplace are made from chocolate. That painting in the background is also made from a mixture of white and dark chocolate!

Palacio de Sal is a hotel built of salt blocks. It is located at the edge of Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat. It has been constructed with 1 million salt blocks. The chairs, tables, beds and sculptures have all been made with salt. Licking the walls is strictly not allowed!

The Hobbit House in Montana, USA is a Lord of The Rings themed guest house built by LOTR enthusiasts Steve Michaels and his wife Christine. It boasts a king sized bedroom, designer kitchen, WiFi, but the LOTR theme is everywhere from little rock handles on the drawers,  Gandalf stained glass doors to The One Ring dangling from the loft. You are even offered hairy Hobbit feet shaped slippers!
