Ways to Cure a Headache

We all get headaches and they suck. They can range between mildly annoying to absolutely agonising and dealing with that can be difficult. Fortunately, there are many ways that you can cure a headache, from medication to natural remedies. Let’s take a look at the ways you can ease the pain and get your life back.

#1.)    Stay hydrated

If you have a headache, drinking water can help. Dehydration is sometimes the cause of headaches, so keeping yourself hydrated can keep the headaches at bay. Men should be drinking roughly 3 litres of water each day, while women should have 2.2 litres.

Be sure not to drink water that’s too cold though, as this can make your headache worse or trigger a migraine.

#2.)    Hide away

Another option is to hide away from the world. Find yourself a dark, quiet hideaway and lie down there for at least half an hour. Close your eyes and focus on your breathing; by reducing the amount of sensory input your body is receiving, it gives your body a chance to relax.

For best results, use a room that is comfortable and at the right temperature – if you sleep best in a cool room, use a cool room.

#3.)    Cooler than Cool

Another great way to help relieve a headache is to use a cool compress. Placing something soft and cool over your forehead and eyes can ease the pain; the cold temperature causes your blood vessels to constrict, which lessens the tension and inflammation in your head.

Wet a cloth with cool water and replace it as soon as it starts to warm up. If you combine this method with the previous one, you can kiss that headache goodbye.

For headaches caused by stress or anxiety, a warm compress or hot shower can prove more effective than a cool compress.

#4.)    Massage the pain away

Massaging your head, neck and shoulders can do wonders.

If you have a tension headache, massaging your head and temples can improve circulation and thus relieve the tension in your head. Place two fingers to your temples and massage gently, in small circles.

Tension in your neck and shoulders can also cause a headache, so relieving the tension in your muscles can also help cure the pain in your head.
